Dear Mr. Kovalchuk

Please sign in Russia.
There are just to many things wrong with paying someone 100 million dollars. Especially in a time of economic chaos where people don’t have jobs and others are losing their homes.

Giving you a 100 million dollar contract for the next 15-17 years just gives the Devils and Kings permission to raise ticket prices through the stratosphere for close to two decades. Ticket prices that most of us can’t afford anyway but because we love the game, we find a way. Given that California is currently 3rd in the nation in unemployment at 12.4 percent and New Jersey is 18th at 9.7%, it doesn’t make much sense for you to take the rest of our hard earned money… and spend it in Russia.

Plus our ticket representatives won’t have to be as nice as they have been anymore. We like to be coddled and wooed and treated like the Stars we think we are. If you’re here, their attitude will change. Much like when the Capitals were begging season ticket holders to renew before OV or Pittsburgh before Crosby.

Then there’s the chance that you could turn into the next George Foster, or Kevin Brown or Alexi Yashin and either team is stuck with you until many of us will be dead.

Lou doesn’t want to pay you that kind of dough for that many years. It’s never been his style. But his owners do. Dean Lombardi doesn’t want to pay you that kind of dough for that many years. It’s never been his style. But his owners do.

Long after AEG and Jeff Vanderbeek have sold their franchises, the fans will once again be the losers. In, 2020 they’ll be on the cuff for the 10 million dollars we'll be wishing we weren't paying for. For a 37 year old. Quick, name a forward who was just as productive at 37 as he was at 27.

Do you now understand why we’d rather have you play in Russia?
